To pick the best restaurants is always a challenge and I will not lie it was otherwise in Porto 🙂 I enjoy food a lot and try to follow the friends recommendations as well as discover my “own” places. I usually only go to well rated restaurants and try to find a balance between quality and price. Below there are some snack, local, fish and seafood, francesinha-specialized, vegan and foreign restaurants. I hope you try them all one day and share your experience 🙂
Snack food
- Casa Guedes Tradicional – a traditional restaurant established in 1987 specialized on “sande de pernil” (pork sandwich).

- Conga – Conga is one of the most famous places in Porto open since 1976. They have the most famous “bifanas” (pork sandwiches) in town.

- McDonald’s – Worth mentioning because of the beautiful building located on Aliados.

Local food
- Casa Viúva – family restaurant with typical Portuguese food for a good price.
- ZA IN PORTO – another family restaurant with typical Portuguese food.
- Taberna d’Avó – typical Portuguese food, specialized mainly on fish and seafood.
- Mundo de Luísa – modern restaurant.

- Coupage 51 – modern kind-of-tapas restaurant located in Cedofeita offers very cozy atmosphere and good food as well as wine.

- Chama – must visit in Porto. In Chama, the menu is always a surprise and it changes every day, you get to know it only once served in restaurant. The only dish they did not change throughout the years is the one on the picture. Book your seat in advance as the waiting lists are long, especially in high season. The price is also not the cheapest one, but definitely worth the experience.

- Nogueiras´s Porto – modern restaurant, the prices are higher.
- Casa da Guripa – located on the Angeiras beach southern from Matosinhos. It is specialized on fish and sea creatures but you can find also other meals there. Very good quality for a fair price.

- Terminal 4450 – a steakhouse located close to the port “Porto de Leixões“. The prices are a bit higher.

- Muu Steakhouse – a google reputation of 4.9 speaks for itself. The prices correspond to the quality too.

- Celta Endovelico – Celta Endovelico offers good-quality food as well as ciders from all around the world.

- Madureira’s – a group of restaurants located around Porto.
Fish and seafood
- Ostras & Coisas – a seafood restaurant.

- Taberna dos Mercadores – another seafood restaurant.

- Olhinhos do polvo – located in Matosinhos, specialized on octopus.

Francesinha – there is always a big dispute on the best francesinha in Porto. For my suggestions see this article.
Vegan/vegetarian

- Terrárea – the visit of Terrárea is literally a unique experience. It is the place filled with plants, flowers, decorations, ceramics and good vegetarian food, too. It is located in Matosinhos.

Foreign
- Sushiaria – a very good sushi restaurant located in Leça da Palmeira near Matosinhos. Prices correspond to the quality – they are bit higher.

- Subenshi – another very good sushi restaurant located in the city center.

- Tokyo Sushi – cheaper all-you-can-eat sushi alternative for sushi lovers 🙂 The quality is lower but so is the price.

- Fuji – another cheaper all-you-can-eat alternative to enjoy great sushi.
- Porto Express – a well rated Vietnamese Restaurant.

- Honu – a poke restaurant.

- Pizzeria Bella Mia! – the best pizza I have ever eaten was not in Italy but in Pizzeria Bella Mia! in Porto 🙂
