03 – MEET THE COMMUNITY

Héloïse Cleret

Héloïse is originally from France 🇫🇷, more precisely from Manche, in Normandy. Hélo has been living in Matosinhos for a little over a year. Before settling here, she spent a little over six months travelling around Portugal in a campervan falling in love with Porto. I asked her a few questions to help us get to know her better:

  • What brought you here? We were looking for a change of lifestyle, a more dynamic and healthier environment. We particularly loved the energy of Matosinhos: it’s a very lively, sporty place, close to the ocean, outdoor activities and very multicultural, with a large expat community.

  • How can you help others? I’m a fitness and nutrition coach. I help people improve their health, feel stronger, fitter and more confident through physical activity adapted to their goals and everyday life.

  • Your Porto favourite? Very difficult to choose just one! 😅

In Matosinhos, Foz and Leça, I really love the coastline: running, walking, getting some fresh air… It’s such a pleasant place and somewhere I really feel good.

In Porto, I absolutely love the parks: Parque da Cidade, Serralves, Palácio de Cristal, Virtudes…

  • Your best expat tip? Don’t wait until you feel completely settled to start building your life here. Try to meet people, try new activities, join communities and, most importantly, don’t be afraid of making mistakes when speaking Portuguese.

  • What do you wish you knew before coming to Porto? I wish I had known that it takes time to rebuild your social and professional life from scratch.

Even in such a welcoming city as Porto, making new connections, finding your bearings and developing your business in a new country, with a language you don’t necessarily speak fluently, it’s hard, takes time and patience.

04 – TRY THIS

Best Matcha in Porto

Matcha is a finely‑ground powder of specially grown and processed green tea leaves, traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremony. For those looking beyond espresso and classic lattes, matcha offers a bright, healthy alternative and has become a café‑culture favourite. In the guide below you can find best places in Porto to try some matcha.
