03 – MEET THE COMMUNITY

Khaoula Hammami

Khaoula is originally from Tunisia 🇹🇳 and has been living in Porto for almost two years. I asked her a few questions to help us get to know her better:

  • What brought you here? I moved here for love ❤️.

  • How can you help others? I’m an English teacher and I also teach conversational Arabic, so I love helping people connect through languages and cultures. You can find me on Instagram here.

  • Your Porto favourite? One of my favourite places in Porto is Foz – I never get tired of walking by the Atlantic and enjoying the views 🌊.

  • Your best expat tip? To give yourself time to settle in. Moving to a new country can feel overwhelming at first, so don’t put pressure on yourself to feel at home immediately. Get out, explore, meet people and slowly build your own community.

  • What do you wish you knew before coming to Porto? How much patience you need for to learn the language ! 😅 But I also wish I had known how much there is to discover beyond the usual tourist spots – Porto and its surroundings have so many beautiful places and experiences.

04 – TRY THIS

Portuguese Fast Food

When people think of fast food, they usually think of burgers and fries. In Porto, however, locals often grab a bifana, prego, or another tasty local “fast food.” It’s quick, delicious, and a great way to eat like a local.

05 – PORTUGUESE WORD

🇵🇹 cachorrinho

🇬🇧 Porto-style hot dog

Fun fact: Cachorrinho literally means “little dog,” but in Porto it’s also a beloved local sandwich. 🐶🌭
